Beta
The Profile Explainer is new. Check important answers against the profile itself.
Paste a StructureDefinition (a profile or an extension) as JSON and get a plain list of what it requires.
Steps
- Open Profile Explainer.
- Paste the StructureDefinition JSON, or press Load example.
- Press Explain profile (or ++ctrl+enter++).
What you get
- Required elements, and elements that are required only when their parent is present
- Must-support elements
- Elements that are not allowed (max 0)
- Code bindings and their strength that this profile sets or changes (from the differential; bindings inherited from the parent are not repeated)
- Fixed and pattern values
- Type and reference limits
- Slices and extensions
- Invariants added by this profile
Snapshot or differential
A StructureDefinition with a snapshot gives the fullest answer. With only a differential, the explainer reads only what this profile changes. Inherited rules are not shown, and when the differential sets only a minimum, the maximum is inherited, so the explainer says "at least 1" rather than guessing.
Tip: the JSON that the FSH Checker makes has a differential only. Published guides on packages.fhir.org include snapshots.
